Publishing From Remote Server to Local Computer
Expression Web can copy files from the web server, just like Frontpage did.
Expression Web can copy these files using FTP or Frontpage Server Extensions,
just like Frontpage did. This is extremely helpful if your computer
crashes and you need to retrieve the data from the server.
Assuming you have created the website already on your computer, you can easily
set up the connection information in the Remote Web Site Properties. This
is where you can use FPSE or FTP, depending on your hosting company. If
you have used Frontpage guestbook, hit counter or any other FPSE
components like:
- Confirmation Field
- Discussion Form Handler
- FrontPage created server-side Image Maps
- Registration Form Handler
- Save Results Form Handler
- Scheduled Image
- Scheduled Include Page Component
- Search Form
- WebBot Registration component
- WebBot Discussion component
- WebBot Save Results component
- WebBot Search component
- WebBot Scheduled Include component
- FrontPage created server-side Image Maps
- WebBot Confirmation Field component
- WebBot Scheduled Image
- Nested subwebs
- Lightweight Source Control (document check-in/check-out without Microsoft Visual SourceSafe for Windows)
- Categories component
- StyleSheet links to multiple files or Active Server Pages (ASP) files
For more information review:
You can choose what files to publish
or synchronize the files (this will help if you have multiple users updating
files) to
publish from the
remote server to the local computer. Synchronizing is supposed to
review the data files that Frontpage and Expression Web creates to know what
files should be updated. It is a good idea to always have a backup copy as
well, just in case.
