Akitas - Suki and KenjiThese are two Akitas - Suki and Kenji.  Suki is on the left, born on 26 March 2007.  Kenji is on the right, born on 17 June 2008.  Suki weighs about 70 pounds and is about 20 months old as of this posting.  Suki is about 80 pounds and is about 6 1/2 months as of this posting.

They get along great and have a fun time playing together.  I was able to socialize Suki, so she plays well with other dogs.  I will work with Kenji later this year.  Their playing sometimes gets a bit out of control, since they use their mouth quite a bit.  Fortunately though, they have not had any problems with this bit of rough play. 

Suki was spayed when she was about six months old, and we also had prophylactic gastropexy to help prevent Gastric Volvulus Dilatation (GVD) or Gastric Torsion if she bloats.  If the stomach turns, the dog could possibly die if treatment is not received within a few minutes.  We chose this since it could be done via a laparoscope while she was getting spayed.

We did not do the surgery for Kenji when he was getting neutered since there was no reason for them to go inside.  Plus we bought him from a breeder who assured us that there was no history of this in his ancestry.  Suki was actually purchased at a mall (of all places) and her history was not known at the time.

Suki is registered with the America's Pet Registry (APR) and Kenji is registered with the American Kennel Association (AKC).
